Dark ruby/purple, with notes of black raspberries, damp earth, minerals, plums, and a hint of mushrooms, this is a strong effort from Le Gay. It displays medium body, moderate tannin, and none of the rusticity that recent vintages have often possessed. Nevertheless, patience will be required. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2017.
Note: This tasting note is based on a barrel tasting done in 2003. I did not have an opportunity to retaste this wine from bottle.
