The 1999 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva is a full, dark ruby with a cassis and oak spice nose, medium weight, a slightly cramped personality, and tannins suggesting the wine needs more meat to flesh itself out. Drink: 2005-2008.
A negociant house, located in Chianti Classico (right down the road from the home of famed winemaker Vittorio Fiore, to be precise), Carpineto owns vineyards both in Montepulciano and nearby Chianciano Terme. The wines are professionally made but suffer from an excess of Cabernet in the blend as well as a lack of personality.
