The 2009 L'Oratori is a blend of 50% Garnacha, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Carinena, raised for 12 months in barrel. It has a simple but joyful nose of kirsch and marmalade. The palate is sweet and a little alcoholic on the entry. Fleshy in texture with intense strawberry and spicy fruit, this is a well-made commercial, heady Emporda wine to drink over the next three years. Drink now-2016.
Celler Marti Fabra has been owned by the same family since 1293 and apparently, they are in possession of documents that indicate vines as far back as 1305 (vintage unavailable here.) The unfertile slate soils offer minerality to their wines and yields are kept naturally low. They focus primarily on Garnacha and Carinena, plus a little Moscatel.
