The 1998 Ciro Rosso Classico is a very good value. Made from 100% Gaglioppo, this tank-fermented and aged red is a spicy, medium ruby-colored wine with an amber edge. Notes of cedar, tar, saddle leather, pepper, and smoky, berry fruit emerge from this rustic yet authentic tasting effort from southern Italy. Made in a Cotes du Rhone-like style, it exhibits a gutsy, rustic, spicy personality. Drink it over the next 1-2 years.
