The 1988 Fixin Les Crais from Berthaut is a beautifully boisterous young bottle of Fixin, drinking at its peak. A vibrant and fruity bouquet of rich cassis, wood smoke, summer truffle and grilled meat precedes a full-bodied, youthful wine with a sweet and ample core of fruit and superb depth and dimension for its level. My intuition is that this started life rather hard and tannic, but it has decidedly blossomed at age 29!
