The 2000 Mille e Una Notte is notably better than previous versions, a blackish ruby with potent and expansive black currant and blackberry fruit, graphite, and tar on its nose and palate, and rich, solid, and very sustained flavors, good for another dozen years of excellent drinking.
Owned by a branch of the Rallo family, an historic name in Marsala, Donnafugata, with more than 650 acres of vineyards, has long been a major force in Sicily. The last eighteen months have also seen a dramatic increase in quality, and these are wines which now compete with the best of Italy’s south.
