The 2008 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau exhibits more density as well as a deeper ruby/purple color, and a sumptuous bouquet of black raspberries, black cherries, white chocolate, and pepper, sweet tannin, and none of the rusticity or overbearing body and power of a Rasteau. It should drink nicely for 5-8 years.

This unheralded estate is making fabulous wines from their 62 acres of vines spread throughout Rasteau and the surrounding Cotes du Rhone appellation. Proprietor Georges Perot utilizes the services of the enormously talented Philippe Cambie, and, as one might expect, these are full-flavored, wonderfully pure, complex wines that respect their appellation. Previously recommended in issue 181: 2007 Cotes du Rhone (89), 2007 Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Oubliee (91-93), 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Rasteau (91-93)
