A gorgeous array of dark fruit, scorched earth, tar, smoke, licorice and menthol flavors explode out of the glass as the 2003 Alghero Tanca Farra dazzles the palate. A blend of Cannonau and Cabernet Sauvignon, it deftly combines the fruit of the former and the aromatics of the latter in a style that is both structured and weightless at the same time. A final note of sweetness lingers on the finish. This generous, deeply-flavored wine should drink well over the next decade. It is yet another compelling wine from the island of Sardinia. The Tanca Farra spent a total of 30 months in oak, first smaller French barrels, then larger casks. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018.
Sella e Mosca’s history goes back all the way to the 19th century. Even though the estate produces a large quantity of wine, quality is quite high especially among these selections.
