The soft, rich 1991 Negre Scala Dei reveals intense, jammy, red and black fruits evident in both the nose and flavors. The wine is full-bodied, peppery, and spicy, with low acidity, and a lush, velvety-textured, alcoholic finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. This Grenache-based wine has consistently placed well in my tastings. It is a rich, peppery, medium to full-bodied, supple, mouthfilling, satisfying wine. Readers should think of it as Spain's answer to Chateauneuf du Pape.
