For value, readers can look forward to a tasty 1997 Cotes du Rhone blanc. This cuvee has become better as Guigal has bulked up the percentage of Viognier (now about 20% of the blend), and begun adding Roussanne from the nearby village of St. Peray. The 1997 is a low acid, fat, honeyed style of white Cotes du Rhone meant to be enjoyed during its first year of life. Reflective of Guigal's origins in the northern Rhone, this wine, while containing plenty of Grenache, is buttressed by increasing quantities of Syrah and Mourvedre.
