An entry-level, un-oaked red, the 2012 Gaba do Xil Mencía is sourced from old vineyards on granite soils at 550 meters altitude that has other grapes intermixed as it was the norm in the old times. It was fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts. The nose shows a mixture of wild berries and aromatic herbs which is very attractive and typical. The palate is medium-bodied with moderate acidity, clean and intense, quite straightforward. The nose improves quite a lot with time in the glass, so I'd recommend to open and decant the bottle in advance. The 40,000 bottles.
