The 2000 Scavigna Rosso Garrone, from a neighboring appellation, is deliberately international with an important contribution from the oak and from the Cabernet in the blend. It shows much vanilla, cedar, and black berry fruit in its aromatics, structured and textured flavors, very good concentration, and much continuity and intensity on the development and finish. With a slightly more Calabrian personality, this wine would be the equal of Vigna Mortella, but in its own right it is a fine effort. Stefano Chioccioli is in charge of the winemaking here, and it shows.
