Unquestionably, Pine Ridge is making far richer, more interesting, and more alluringly textured and complete wines today than they were in the mid-eighties. Nevertheless, the 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford District possesses a deep ruby color, an herb, earth, spicy, currant-scented nose, ripe, vibrant fruit, crisp acidity, medium body, and noticeable tannin in the finish. The wine is well-made, but the level of tannin vis a vis the level of extract may become more worrisome in 2-3 years. At present, the wine appears capable of lasting another decade. The tasting notes for this section are from two single blind tastings, one conducted in May, 1996, in California, and the other in June, 1996, in Baltimore.
