The 1999 Chardonnay Sweeney Canyon comes across as a New World version of Chevalier-Montrachet. Plenty of substance, lively acidity, notes of tangerine and oranges mixed with minerals and citrus are presented in a full-bodied, substantial style. It will benefit from cellaring, and should keep for 7-8 years. This is a wine of two up and coming California superstars. Don't miss it. The talented Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton have admirably exploited the extraordinary potential that exists in selected micro-climates in Santa Barbara county.
