The 1995 Cabernet Franc is one of the greatest Cabernet Francs I have tasted from California. A blend of 75% Cabernet Franc and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon (400 cases produced), this wine reminded me of the unblended cuvee of Cabernet Franc that usually goes into Dalla Valle's extraordinary proprietary red wine called Maya. For a Cabernet Franc, the wine possesses an uncommonly dense black/purple color, and a sweet nose of licorice, underbrush, red as well as black currants, and toast. Amazingly extracted, yet somehow retaining its elegance, this wine offers the essence of black fruits in its long, rich, medium to full-bodied flavors. There is enough acidity and some tannin, but the wine's extraordinary purity and equilibrium are hallmarks of this smashing effort. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2016. This Spring Mountain winery continues to push the envelope of quality as evidenced by the current releases - the finest wines they have yet produced.
