The 2011 Le Redini (a 90-10 blend of Merlot and Alicante) delivers a bold, almost chewy style, with inky black concentration and ripe aromas of black cherry, blackberry jam and prominent accents of crushed clove and spice. The wine sees ten months of oak and is extremely supple and soft in texture, although its overall weight and consistency is far less massive than you might expect. The Merlot component in particular seems on the extra-ripe side. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2017.
Tenuta degli Dei is located in Panzano in Chianti and is run by Tommaso Cavalli, son of eccentric fashion designer Roberto Cavalli. The tiny winery is located in the basement of a country church. Unexpected as it may seem, Tommaso is a shy and hands-on guy who does everything in the winery himself. Although he doesn’t make a Chianti Classico, he is mulling over the possibility of doing so in the future.
