The 1999 Chardonnay Dierberg Vineyard reveals an evolved light gold color, offering notes of ripe peaches and honeyed citrus. The wine is medium-bodied and compressed, with tart acidity. It will drink well for 1-3 years. I suspect acid freaks will rate this wine several points higher, as elevated acidity is de rigeur. This very rare, single-vineyard Chardonnay has distinct vanilla, golden delicious apple, banana and peach flavors—a nice mix of sweet and sour, but some tasters found searing acidity and a sharp metallic note.
