Neumayer – who incidentally bottled his 2005s with screw cap closures – took great pains this year in thinning out his crop so as to achieve balanced ripeness early on. His 2005 Gruner Veltliner Engelgarten was brought in near the beginning of October and offers a delicate, infectiously juicy expression of its grape, loaded with flavors of lemon, thyme, and snap pea. It displays a polished mouthfeel and finishes with admirable clarity and length. This wine exhibits a kind of simplicity that is not easy to achieve. Importer: Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel.
