The 1997 Zinfandel Paso Robles offers over-ripe prunes, plums, and cherries in the nose, explosive fruit, copious glycerin, and a full-bodied, chewy, seductive character. It should be drunk over the next 4-5 years.
The 1997 Zinfandels are all high in alcohol, largely because of vintage conditions. All are slightly more successful than Ridge's very fine 1996s. Interestingly, Paul Draper told me the alcohol levels for all these wines are well above 15%.
