A library release purchased from Paternina, the 2001 Conde de los Andes is a textbook classical Rioja produced at the height of modernity in the region. It has a developed nose but still keeps some signs of fruit and youth from a very powerful vintage. It has notes of maraschino cherries and tobacco, exotic spices and forest floor. The palate is round, juicy and lush, with clout and stuffing to develop for another decade.
