Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 Limited Release Tempranillo gives seriously intense aromas of warm raspberries, crushed strawberries and red currant with some mint and a whiff of toast. Medium to full-bodied with a good amount of ripe berry fruit, it has medium level of grainy tannins, crisp acidity and a long finish. Drinking now, it should keep to 2015. Established in 1991, Pepper Tree produces about 50,000 cases out of the Hunter Valley, Coonawarra, Wrattonbully and Orange. Their much praised young chief winemaker Jim Chatto joined in 2007, bringing with him a fresh eye. These new releases demonstrate his talented touch as well as offering very good value, with all except the Strandlines Cabernet Shiraz priced at around AU$35 or below.No known USA importer.
