It's beginning to sound like a broken record, but Kesselstatt's 2006 Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Spatlese is also marked by pink grapefruit and banana, along with cassis and more northerly orchard fruits. Certainly it is effusively fruity - almost gaudy - and also pronouncedly creamy in texture and sweet. Suggestions of mint and cassis candy and nut brittle emerge as one works this around in the mouth, yet surprisingly, the sweetness backs off a bit in the back and there is a clear sense of wet stone and nut oils as well as juicy refreshment. This should be at least a 25 year keeper, although personally I would give it a decade before even revisiting. -We organized early,- says Annegret Reh-Gartner, -and then harvested in two weeks what we usually harvest in four.- She felt her hand was forced on the Saar when many of their vineyards were hailed on September 30, but by the time the crew was mobilized the heavy rain of October 3 was upon them.Various importers including: P.
