My favorite of this trio is the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Marceau, a 300-case lot made from 35% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and the rest Vaccarese, Mourvedre, and the rarely seen varietal, Terret Noir. This sexy, ripe, full-bodied, opulent wine boasts a dense ruby/purple color as well as plenty of black and red fruits intermixed with lavender, garrigue, and spicy oak notes. Dense, with admirable fruit intensity, adequate acidity, and a layered, long finish, it should drink well for 10-12 years.
Domaine des 3 Celliers tends to take a middle of the road position between traditionally and modern-styled Chateauneuf du Papes. A fairly large domaine with 33+ acres under vine, it fashions three separate cuvees of red Chateauneuf, all excellent to outstanding.
No known American importer.
