These wines confirm Ceretto's elegant, understated, restrained style of winemaking. All three 1988 Barbarescos would benefit from more cellaring. Although the Bricco Asili and Faset were closed, both are elegant wines with bouquets that suggest bing cherry, cedar, and leather. On the palate, they are medium-bodied and tannic. The Faset is jammier, perhaps because it was made from riper grapes. This wine should evolve gracefully for at least 8-10 years. I should note that all three Barbarescos were tight when they were first opened, and needed a minimum of one hour's breathing. Even the following day the wines were considerably more flattering to taste than immediately after opening. Importer: Palace Brands, Hartford, CT.
