Good but not great, this bottling gets the same score as the 2004, but for a different reason. The ’04 was too soft and ripe. The ’05 is dry and tough in tannins, and despite a core of blackberries, it doesn’t seem like an ager. In this cool part of the valley, vintage is everything, and this wine needs perfect conditions to succeed. ——S.H.(11/1/2008)—— 87
