Charlopin continues to practice a whoppingly long 10-day cold maceration. This has resulted in deeply colored 1991s which are solid, concentrated, well-made wines, but lack the complexity and intensity to warrant outstanding ratings. The 1991 Charmes-Chambertin is similarly styled, with slightly more tannin in the finish. Monolithic, but impressively colored, rich, and chewy, it, too, should be drunk over the next 7-8 years.
