The 2009 Falanghina Via del Campo comes across as a bit restrained in this vintage within the context of the estate’s wines. Floral notes meld into juicy white peaches and apricots in this round, voluptuous wine. The aromatic qualities of Falanghina come through over time, but as is typically the case, Moio has created a wine of extraordinary textural richness, albeit with less weight than some previous releases. There is a level of textural finesse that sets the Quintodecimo Falanghina apart from the vast majority of Italian whites being made today. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2017.
Proprietor Luigi Moio continues to set the bar high – very high – at his small property in Campania. Moio’s rich, textured whites and reds are among the most exciting wines being made in Italy today. I never miss a chance to drink them, and neither should you.
