The 2008 Alanda, a blend of 65% Mencia, 30% Bastardo, and 5% Tinta Fina (Tempranillo). Malolactic fermentation occurred in neutral oak followed by another 13 months of aging in barrel. An earthy minerality, rose petals, exotic spices, incense, cassis, and black raspberry aromas compose the bouquet of this spicy, savory, complex, but slightly narrow red. It has the structure to evolve for 1-2 years which may allow it to fill out. It can be enjoyed through 2018, perhaps longer.
Quinta da Muradella, located in the town of Verin in the Monterrei DO, is a garage winery where proprietor Jose Luis Mateo and Raul Perez make wine from 34 unique, certified organic, parcels. A principal purpose of the project is to relate the history of the region through the wines. That fascinating story goes beyond the bounds of this report but the importer can provide more detailed information to those interested.
