The 2007 Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco is impeccably elegant. It is a somewhat restrained wine next to the other 2007s from Bolgheri, yet there is plenty of depth and sheer personality in the bottle. Ripe, silky tannins support a core of dark plums, cherries, roasted coffee beans, leather, herbs and minerals, all of which come together on a mid-weight frame. Like so many 2007s, the Grattamacco is already incredibly delicious. It should drink well to age twenty, perhaps beyond. Grattamacco is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Sangiovese. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2027.
