A densely fruited and brooding style that draws you in with its pure damson fruit and orange peel. There's plenty of concentration here and a sense that there are layers yet to reveal themselves. Based in the Southern Valleys, Auntsfield benefits from richer, loess/clay soils compared with the region's valley floor, and this tends to give a more sumptuous, full-bodied expression. The tannins are also more ample in their generosity, covering all sides of the mouth with their succulent, velvety texture. Fine acidity provides direction on the long, scented finish, reminiscent of damson skin, cinnamon and Assam tea. This shows the potential of Marlborough Pinot on the right site.
