The 2006 Pinot Noir Peay Vineyard, from a cool climate site, displays notes of cherries, cola, and herbs. The wine has a certain leanness and austerity, with some dry, aggressive tannins in the finish. The color is dark, and there is a certain stemminess to the fruit character. Marked by crisp, coastal acidity, this Pinot has a lightly silky texture, but the flavors are quite concentrated. Shows strawberry jam, red cherry tart and dusty spice flavors, an elegant wine of clarity and distinction. Not really an ager, but will hold for a good six years.——S.H.(8/1/2009)—— 91
