The Kruger-Rumpf 2008 Scheurebe trocken has an invigorating and refreshing greenness that will appeal to wine lovers and dishes that crave Sauvignon. But it won’t be everyone’s cup of gooseberry, cassis, passion fruit and herbs, that’s for sure. “I wanted this to be subtle, not too obvious in aroma,” says Georg Rumpf, but I think the wine had a slightly different conception of itself. The retention of acid – expressed as fresh lime – and the relatively lightness in alcohol (although slightly chaptalized) are part of the appeal. I would drink it in 2010. The Rumpfs seem in 2008 to have had to struggle less to avoid the greenness that was observed in certain of their 2007s. “There was just nothing you could do this year,” comments Georg Rumpf, “except let the fruit hang a long time on the vine.”Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel.
