This was an impressive barrel sample when tasted last year, and the bottled wine has turned out to be even better. Value seekers should check out the 2003 Roble, a 100% Tempranillo aged seven months in old American oak, and bottled unfiltered. A smoky, earthy nose reveals notions of sweet black currants, herb-tinged cherries, licorice, and spice box. This layered, plump, attractive Spanish red offers plenty of flesh and fruit. Consume it over the next 2-3 years. Importer: Andre Tamers, De Maison Selections Inc., Chapel Hill, NC; tel. (919) 933-4245
