The 2013 Joven de Silos is from a very difficult vintage that meant a lot of sorting and up to 35% of the grapes discarded. It has a reductive profile too often found in the Tempranillos from Ribera that have aged for a short time in barrel. It benefits from energetic decanting, showing notes of red and black fruit, plums and licorice and a hint of spices. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied, with light tannins and a slightly bitter finish. Drink now.
Cillar de Silos is a brilliant family project from the Aragon family from Quintana de Pidio, in the Burgos province where they work their 68 hectares of vineyards ranging from 10 to 90 years of age.
