The 2008 Matarromera Reserva is aged for 18 months in French and American oak. I appreciate the bouquet on this wine: quite complex and introverted with some lovely sous-bois and tobacco notes hiding behind the carapace of black fruit. The palate is full-bodied with fine tannins and layers of pure licorice infused sweet black fruit (bilberry and boysenberry) that are kept in check by the acidity. This is a well-made Reserva. Drink 2013-2020.
