The provocative 2000 Aglianico del Vulture Il Viola is a wickedly wild, nearly savage Italian red that should be tried by adventurous readers. Aromas of damp earth, flowers, pepper, sweet red and black fruits, and some kinky characteristics I couldn't decipher are followed by a full-bodied, dense, distinctive wine.
