Austere as well as rich is the 2001 Chardonnay Bee Block (543 cases). Made from a 14-year old vineyard, it possesses a light straw color in addition to a sumptuous perfume of liquid stones intermixed with honeyed citrus, orange blossoms, and lemon oils. Textured and full-bodied, with great purity, tremendous fruit, and a long, concentrated, impressive finish, it could easily pass for a Burgundy grand cru. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
