From north-facing, pure shale soils and easily the richest of the lineup, the 2011 Chardonnay Bent Rock is a knockout effort that will stand up there with the best whites coming out of California today. Offering up notions of white peach, hints of honey, lime peel and oyster shell, this beauty flows onto the palate with medium-bodied richness, a mouth-filling texture and racy acidity. Despite being the richest of the lineup, it’s still made in a classically lean, focused style that relies on finesse and elegance over power. I’d recommend drinking it over the coming 4-5 years, although it will most likely last longer. Drink now-2018.
These racy, energetic efforts are made by Sashi Moorman from their home base in Lompoc. Taking lightness to the extreme in some cases, these are nevertheless riveting wines.
