The up-front 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape offers the classic southern Rhone combination of Provencal herbs, ground pepper, black cherry liqueur, and resiny/loamy soil characteristics. Its medium ruby color is misleading as there is far more flavor than the color suggests (typical of Grenache-based wines). This well-made, attractive, medium-bodied, elegant Chateauneuf is ideal for drinking now and over the next 6-7 years.
