The garnet/ruby-hued 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is very Provencal in its garrigue, pepper, soy, kirsch, plum, and fruitcake notes. Round, seductive, and lush with loads of fruit in addition to an enticing texture, it can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years. It is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, and the balance Cinsault and Syrah from 50-year-old vines.
No 2008 Berthet-Rayne offerings were presented for tasting, but this 37-acre estate produced its finest wines to date in 2007.
