The 2006 Barolo has turned out beautifully now that it is in bottle. It shows lovely energy and focus in a tightly-wound style that is typical of the year. Red berries, leather, licorice and spices come together nicely in this mid-weight Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.
I was quite taken with the 2007s I tasted from Giampaolo Pira. The vintage seems to be particularly well-suited to a house style that seeks textural richness and opulence. At the time of my tastings, all of Pira’s 2007s had yet to be bottled.
