Begins with earthy, berry aromas that smell disjointed and sharp. It’s a big wine, with sturdy tannins, although it has a soft mouthfeel. There’s not much fruit evident, but there is a sharp, dry astringency in the finish. Not offering much pleasure now, and not likely to improve. A Rhone-style blend of Syrah, Mourvedre, and Grenache. ——S.H.(7/1/2002)—— 84
