The 2007 Fracture (100% Syrah) is gorgeous. It is a powerful wine with 16.1% alcohol, but none of that shows through the cascade of blackberry, charcoal, subtle smoke, espresso, and pen ink notes. Superb fruit purity along with full-bodied power, and a long, heady finish with no hard edges suggest it will drink well for a decade or more. Booker Vineyard, a 40-acre vineyard planted on limestone soils just west of Highway 101, continues to strut its stuff after its impressive debut in 2005. I retasted several of the 2006s I had last year, and the ratings were slightly elevated.Tel. (805) 237-7367; Fax (805) 237-7368
