The Feiler’s 2002 Ausbruch Welschriesling-Chardonnay smells of caramel apple and honey, lanolin and peat. Creamy, dense, and rich in the mouth with a marrowy/meaty depth to it, this as yet embryonic wine finishes with an intensely honeyed and caramelized set of flavors. (Ausbruch is the local Rust equivalent of the Hungarian “Aszu” and designates wines from nobly rotten grapes of T.B.A. or nearly T.B.A. must weight.)
