A 2005 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule A. P. #9, which will be auctioned, exhibits marzipan, jasmine, apple jelly, and vanilla aromas, a creamy, enveloping, and honeyed yet juicy palate once again featuring almond paste and apple, and a refined, creamy, clear though ennobled fruit finish with poached nectarine added to the cast, along with a lovely, bracing hint of saltiness. This glycerin-rich Auslese really coats the gums and leaves more wet stone and salt mineral character than any of its 2005 siblings at this address. The longer it sits in the glass both the more interesting and the more dynamic it becomes. This is one of Marcus Haag’s most promising wines to date and a good candidate for two or more decades in the cellar.
