The dense ruby/purple-hued 2006 Hermitage exhibits complex aromas of licorice, roasted herbs, sweet cassis and cherries, smoked meat, and spices. Although not the fullest, most concentrated style of Hermitage, it offers a sexy, elegant, complex, surprisingly silky, evolved style. Consume it over the next 10-12 years. Yann Chave’s 2006 Hermitage is still fresh and lively, with a polished, elegant, medium to full-bodied style that took time to open in the glass. Showing classic notes of saddle leather, beef blood and peppery herbs, it has good acidity, plenty of fruit and is just now entering its prime drink window. It should evolve gracefully for a decade.
