Surprisingly juicy, earthy, and peppery is the 2006 Cotes du Rhone Cairanne L’Ancestrale du Puits. Cairanne can be earthy and almost Burgundian-like in their tannin structure, but this is ripe and exhibits plenty of cherry fruit intermixed with pepper and spice. It is a candidate for 4-5 years of drinking. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800
