Here's a fun wine that takes us back to the origins of winemaking with Verdicchio. The Villa Bucci 2016 Verdicchio Classico Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Bucci is aged in 70-year-old oak casks (made with Slavonian oak) for three years. The time in barrel is not much, but the wine's contact with these almost completely neutral barrels is fundamental to its integration and balance. You get citrus and honeydew aromas with some dried garden herb and crushed stone, perfect for raw stone clams and cocktail sauce. Some 120,000 bottles were made.
