In typical fashion for this cru, the Pavelot’s 2005 Savigny-les-Beaune Les Narbantons is both broader and more obviously structured than its siblings. Cooked cherry, iodine, toasty nuttiness and bitter herbal nuances combine for a wine of pith, pungent minerality, and tart but ripe red fruit concentration. This impresses with its density and depth, even if the flavors are somewhat somber and the tannin and acidity prominent. These vines are nearly eighty years old.
