Groffier's better wines were unquestionably successful in 1993. His Chambertin Clos de Beze is top notch. It boasts a deep ruby color, and a sweet, evolved nose of herbs, red and black fruits, and pain grillee. Full-bodied, dense, and concentrated, with moderate tannin, this is an exceptional example of Clos de Beze. It should be even better with 3-4 years of cellaring. This particular wine will be uncommonly long-lived for a wine from Groffier, aging well for 15-18 years. For the first time since I have been tasting Groffier's wines, he decided to bottle them without fining or filtration.A Peter Vezan Selection, various American importers, including Ideal Wines, Medford, MA; tel.
